Teradata’s New IntelliCloud leverages AWS for Big Data Analytics Data analytics specialist Teradata announced this week that it has launched a secure managed cloud service that uses Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS). Teradata IntelliCloud is a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering that can be deployed in the company’s own IntelliFlex enterprise data warehouse platform or in AWS infrastructure provisioned and managed by Teradata. According to the company, IntelliCloud will be made available in select U.S.-based AWS regions by the end of the first quarter. International public cloud regions from AWS will be added later. Future deployment options are also planned for the Microsoft Azure cloud, as well as on-premises. Teradata stated that the analytics service will be able to support the same enterprise workloads and use cases as the company’s on-premise systems. However, it is available on a subscription pricing structure similar to SaaS offerings. Teradata stated in a statement that the most common use cases for companies using IntelliCloud to run their analytic ecosystem are production, test, development, and quality control. “Hybrid cloud use case for IntelliCloud customers who also have Teradata on-premises systems include cloud disaster recovery and cloud bursting, as well as cloud data marts, data labs, and cloud data marts.
